This was ... a movie for sure!
The more Die Hard sequels they make, the more they veer away from everything that made the first movie so good. If this was a standalone buddy cop movie with Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, this would be a really great movie. It has so many elements that I usually love in action thrillers: a gruesome treasure hunt, witty dialogue, a big twist in the third act. Unfortunately, as a Die Hard sequel, it just doesn’t stand up to form.

Endearing romantic plot? Tick.
Richard E. Grant and Catherine O’Hara giving the performances of their careers? Double tick!
In all seriousness, this is a very fun movie. It’s a quaint fairytale where the “princess” learns to love herself before she falls in love with the “prince”. I actually like that it isn’t constrained by temporality or geography as this adds to the whimsy. All of this, and James McAvoy as the greasy, gambling addicted, piano man of my dreams.
