Gladiator II 2024
As a fan of the original movie since I was like, 8, this movie is very confused about what it wants to be. Lots of issues with pacing, story, and character development. It never manages to get out from under the weight of its predecessor, nor does it manage to build on its themes or challenge them in any way. And what it does manage to say about power and who is allowed to have it is quite icky and not the inspiration this movie thinks it is. However, great performances from Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, and Denzel Washington, especially.
