I’ve heard about this series being based on a true chernobyl disaster from 1986, but little did I know that some of the characters were real people, real heroes. That honestly gagged me. One thing about this sci-fi series is that it didn’t have a specific main character, or the story wasn’t revolving around a certain character. The story told about the chernobyl nuclear explosion, which led to a massive madness events—mass death, cancer or disease spread, goverment’s bullshit and…

They should’ve made this a 12 episodes anime series instead of an 1 hour and 30 minutes movie, because everything that happened in this movie felt so rushed. I don’t think the ML and the FL had enough chemistry, one second they started getting to know each other, the next second they were already dating, and the next second she already lost him. Everything happened real quick, I didn’t even have a minute to empathize. Anyways, the ML was very sweet and cute.

Amazing premise, amazing story idea, but meh execution. I just think this movie had so much potential to be great but unfortunately it didn’t satisfy me. Those kids being stuck in nowhere and trying to survive is actually of my favorite trope in movies/series—but the settlement of the main problem is just underwhelming, lack of plot twists, lack of something “mind-blowing”.

Few days ago I just saw this movie without any expectations I had in mind. Since this movie was the most recently released movie from Studio Ghibli, I was such an edgy for thinking nothing can ever top older Ghibli movies’ nostalgia. But I was totally wrong! If someone tried to lie to me and say this movie was released in 1990s or early 2000s, I would’ve believed them. Studio Ghibli never lose its remarkableness even it gets older year by year. This movie brought me back to a fantasy and nostalgia realm I-knew-or-never-knew existed before.
