Unorthodox 2020
I think a realistic piece about a woman finding freedom from orthodox judaism would have been really interesting and valuable, but in this show, realism, in almost every episode, is compromised for shock value and when the main character finally does find her “freedom” it’s a westernized white feminist version of liberation.

I literally loved it up until the final two scenes and those two scenes were so disappointing it made me rethink everything I’d just watched. the dir said in an interview with LA times that he knew he wanted the film to be about “the currency of beauty,” and maybe this is the crux of my issue with this movie. beauty as currency or whatever tf is the least interesting element of the entire film!!!
