  The Brutalist wants to be this movie

  total audiovisual pleasure

  just too good

  colossally good, but not because it's "huge" or "monumental", but because Malick visual storytelling makes it that way. To craft a story through image, sound and montage as the true matter of the narration. That's the real difference.

  Nosferatu, all over again

  Eggers offers here an exquisite form, both in debt with Murnau and even Herzog, that builds an impressive neoexpressionist approach. And meanwhile it's really well directed, story doesn't accompany form, because the problem here is that we've seen this story before, a dozen times, done better even by the hundred years old original movie.
