«Today the flagpole stands bare among Eidvoll’s greening trees, but precisely in this moment we know what freedom is.» - Nordahl Grieg

A bog-standard Norwegian war film, no unique structure or interesting filmmaking techniques. It is not bad, but nothing out of this world either. As a Norwegian it is interesting to see the events that took place, and that is where I find most value in this film. It casts a light on the people involved in saving the…

«If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.» - George Orwell

This was a fun ride from beginning to end! Mickey 17 is a biting satire on capitalism, human labour, and the replaceability of the individual in today’s society. The world-building is fantastic, fully immersing you into the dystopian setting, while the performances elevate the film’s darkly comedic tone. The cast perfectly match the film’s tone, with standout performances from the likes of…

«Each man is the architect of his own fate.» - Sallust

Dark & grimy streets lit up by neon lights, an 80s synth soundtrack like nothing else, this film is oozing with style. The premise is old, but the execution is what really does magic here. Every scene is interesting, showcasing the brilliance of Michael Mann. James Caan is undeniably badass, you don’t doubt his abilities for a second. An obvious but horrific antagonist, the cat and mouse games between cop and robber, it all adds up to a brilliant heist film. A thoroughly executed and entertaining effort!

«You say that you are my judge; I do not know if you are. But take care not to judge me wrongly, for you would put yourself in great danger.» - Joan of Arc

I’ve always been a little hesitant when it comes to silent films, maybe I had an assumption that they would be primitive in what they could convey. However, this blew my socks off. The amount of emotion conveyed in The Passion of Joan of Arc rivals most great…
