  Truly surprised. Even the premise seems like a white savior trope, in the end, it really wasn't.  Such an emotional movie that depended on the subtly and exquisite acting of its lead to showcase the internal strife.  It's a simple premise, yet so impactful showcasing how black people really had to fight hard for the bare minimum.

  wow this movie was so good. cried so much. Jessi is such a ride or die, after all she went through, m'cyantttt😭 what a beautiful movie 😭😭😭😭 i can understand this being nominated for best picture. i'm also a sucker for musicals, but i loved the way the music was intertwined with the dialogue and emotions of the characters

  idk how i feel about this movie. Yea it's from 1959 but that doesn't mean i have to pretend the premise isn't a bit creepy.  I still thought it was goofy ass movie.
