There is no vision or meaning in this movie. Cheap chills and thrills at best. This director needs to find meaning / messages to inject into his movies to build horror from.

One of those films that just assumes the Nazis are bad. For that reason this film ages poorly and its propaganda is as thin as can be, since it doesn’t even try to say anything of political significance.

No - this movie was for golden agers to wax nostalgic, and for boomers to self indulgently feel good about a war they didn’t fight.

That being said, the first scene is absolutely iconic and a 10/10. And the craftsmanship is there. It’s definitely CINEMA, and therein lies the biggest critique.

Now THIS is cinema! I love the speech where Goldblum tells her to stay away. Many thrills and chills. You genuinely feel for his character.

Brutally cringe, and has a history of cringe fandom. Growing up your friend’s older brother with no taste loved this movie.  I think it’s because he likes the idea of living vicariously through Matt Damon’s ‘wild’, ‘genius’ and ‘misunderstood’ character. Robin Williams is both an inauthentic tough guy mentor and preaches a simp mentality. I think it is somewhat of a closeted homosexual movie on some level because Damon seems to want to be tamed by Robin Williams. I normally like white people but this is one of our largest Ls.
