Cool imagery and an engaging plot. Loved the shots of the city, both above ground and below. Plot kinda falls apart by the end, but too visually impressive throughout to fault Lang too much.

Rewatch and boy oh boy is this a great film. Manages to be totally absurd and shockingly incisive at the same time. All of the freaky and disturbing ways the rich in this film cope with the collapse of their society feel very prescient. Any movie where a dude ruins his life for a girl he sees maybe once will always have a special place in my heart.

Jesus this movie stunk. It's a 90 minute movie that somehow lasts twice as long as that, because every single decision and event is explained to death. Not a single character is believable or nuanced, and the dialogue is mind-numbingly stupid. In one scene, Tony is talking to his wife and says "you're stoned!" to which she retorts "I'm not stoned, you're stoned!" Who writes that?? Am I missing something? Is there some director's cut where they rewrite the script and replace every single actor and cut half the scenes? Why is this a classic? I could have written this!

Coda's plot seems like it was thought up in a MadLibs session: Ruby, our quirky protagonist, maligned socially for her family's deafness, must learn to balance her love for music with her family's fishing business. She is helped through this ordeal by everyone's dream boy Miles, a greasy-haired uninspired wannabe musician who seems to exist just to show Ruby that she too, can find love. This plot is developed by dialogue so cheesy that it would make the most audacious…
