This film broke my heart in more ways than one. While the story itself was unfamiliar, the feelings Anora evoked were not. Anora captures the experience of buying into a future that is too good to be true. How in times of desperation for a better life we choose to believe in things unbelievable. We get lost in the ecstasy of novelty, casting our past aside for what is shiny and untainted. And then once what we saw as a dream reveals itself a nightmare, we wish to stay asleep, rather than to be roused and finding ourselves alone with our anguish.
This movie is delightful. I’ve had many friends recommend it to me, and I finally got around to watching it last night. Perfect way to ring in the new year. The animation is beautifully done and I couldn’t help but giggle to myself watching the animals run and bounce around, accompanied by the zippy sound effects. Fantastic Mr Fox brings to the table everything you could possible hope from a film; clever dialogue, compelling storytelling, captivating shots, an array of wonderfully peculiar characters, and an inspiring sentiment; all of these components consistent in their splendor. I’m already looking forward to watching this film again!
