I have had this film been recommended to me so many times and I have to admit I like the slow style of storytelling, but I was not really impressed. Maybe better on a second-time watch, I’m not sure. Ngl a bit pissed because I had a script/idea for a similar concept (not the same but VERY similar), so that felt a bit like a blow (but who knows maybe it still works :p). I didn’t think the girl really acted like a child and the sort of innocence/ignorance aspect was not complete (they do this better in The Florida Project imo).

I LOVED this documentary. The theme of generational trauma was portrayed with sadness, hope and beauty. Hayat was a perfect protagonist to follow. She is an incredibly iconic woman with so much strength and wisdom. It was really lovely to see the care she had for others, especially her sister's daughter. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
