Primarily a Sophia Loren & Marcello Mastroianni vehicle.

Set in Rome in 1938, with the whole city out to watch Hitler meet with Mussolini.

I struggled a little at first to see Sophia Loren as a beaten, downtrodden mother & unappreciated wife. However, the chemistry & dialogue between the two leads and a constant feeling, that your not sure where the story is really going, keeps you guessing & invested.

I'm not sure this needs a review.

A real powerhouse of a movie. The look, structure & execution of the story, keeps you invested for the full 3hrs.

Well crafted, immersive & worthy of the hype.

Strong characters form the backdrop to a fantastically worked narrative,
which stays real & avoids over sentiment. As a result the ending & outcome play out exactly as it should, based on the intelligence of the characters portrayed.

    Louis Jordan & Joan Fontaine.
This is a lovely & tragic movie.

Joan Fontaine's performance is subtle & strangely mesmerizing.

A story of complete unrequited love & obsession which is held back
& hypnotising to watch. Think.. In the mood for love.
