In my view, this film picks up on similar themes to some of his previous films.
The protagonists are caught up in systems they fail to escape, despite their best efforts.
The perspective of each protagonist tends to be largely unreliable, which in turn is juxtaposed with chunks of stilted monologues; more like reading prose than behavioral dialogue. These monologues are almost always retorted expressionless.
