    Every night we're gone
    And to karaoke songs
How we like to sing along
    Though the words are wrong

It really, really, really could happen
Yes, it really, really, really could happen
When the days they seem to fall through you
    Well, just let them go

    Just let them go
    Just let them go

    Ernest Cole: Lost and Found

    ★★★½

A fascinating meditation—an analytical and biographical deconstruction that captures the harsh truth of a broken man as well as that of a cowardly, racist system. Although the narrative never fully escapes the didacticism of a PowerPoint-style presentation, it offers a mesmerising moment to see through the eyes of Ernest Cole. A world unfolds behind the vibrant screen, holding hands with an utopian vision that restores vital dignity to a photojournalist lost in the hell of exile. Que Viva!

    The Northman

    ★★★

Shakespeare and Odin meet in a dive - in "The Northman" Nordic mythology and pathetic theatricality collide and unleash an animalistic inferno in front of a picturesque and awe inspiring backdrop. Eggers opens up a bit to the mainstream here, but fortunately never sacrifices his individual vision in its entirety, so that his third work also offends some with the blunt sword (i always like it bold when it comes to filmmaking), fair enough. But fans can look forward to a strong film, even if it isn't as immersive as one might have hoped. Viva!

  • Goodbye, Dragon Inn

    Goodbye, Dragon Inn

    ★★★★★

Goodbye, Dragon Inn unfolds an indescribable longing for something from the past and fascinates with its modest enthusiasm for a medium that is fighting for its relevance despite shining lights. The touching swan song is also a bit irritating, however, as Goodybe, Dragon Inn itself testifies to the absolute vitality of cinema. As sincere as Tsai Ming-liang conjures up the feeling of a tragic ending, one day he will have to admit that it's a movie like Goodbye, Dragon Inn…
