Past Lives is Celine Songs first full length film I believe and it is just a beautiful film in every aspect.
The film feels minimalistic at times, emotions are conveyed just as well through comfortable and uncomfortable silences as words, a panoramic shot of a skyline showcases the distances between characters, a staircase the different paths they take. To keep this brief I want to focus on 2 things. The soundtrack, and Timothee Chalamet.
The soundtrack: it is the same… but different. Gone are the blaring bagpipes of House Atreides, and Loire Cotlers iconic voice, the soundtrack of a far off, mysterious, inhospitable, ancient land is no longer front and centre, and when she does appear she is far softer and intimate. On its own as a “special” I would give this a 4 or maybe a 4.5 at a push. It can be a bit jarring to watch this as the final episode of the season and be thrown back into Violets character early on in her journey/ story.
