I dont really know what to say about this one tbh. after I read the novel i was so worried i would absolutely hate it but the portrayal of both Lee and Allerton in the film works sooo well in a way i was not expecting. would love so so much to learn more about what the literary development process was/which versions of queer they used and when. also, the final scene with reference to William S. Burroughs own life… phenomenal work

trans pope! (I know he’s intersex but the brief moment where I thought he was trans was also beautiful)
anyway. i really liked this movie. i do think it has slow moments, but there isn’t really anything i would change or take away. tbh, i think it is almost an effective ad for believing in god (the voting scene!!) thought it was really beautiful and well acted. thought the pope pick was obvious from the second he was introduced but the twist was good so its fine.

yeaaaaaah, I’m fucking with the mad max: fury road prequel
I wish I had remembered more of the plot from fury road before seeing it but honestly it just made me want to rewatch fury road so I feel fine abt not rewatching before hand (might watch both again soon anyway)
Anyway, I once again loved the action scenes. I felt like the pacing was good & I remained invested in the stakes the entire time. Really appreciated how much agency & decision making skill furiosa has even as a child.

i enjoyed this! thought it did a good job contextualizing sexuality (and queerness) in the 1800s. i was a bit wary when it started going past abe’s assassination but found the additional information on how we got to modern definitions of sexuality a decent inclusion.
a highlight for me was the way Balcerski talked about the sheer amount of proof historians are asked to provide when discussing queer people of the past. the way all of the historians and researchers…
