the music in these is NUTS. once again, idealistic young men are fated to suffer & die ignominious deaths as the pawns of scheming, insincere yakuza elders. easily the most romance i’ve seen in one of these Fukasaku jitsuroku eiga, which is a nice change of pace for ‘em. Sonny Chiba is a slavering rabid dog in this, incredible stuff, & my man Bunta Sugawara is perhaps the coolest guy to ever do it

exquisitely detailed & visually stunning. incredible running bit w/ the cartoon dust-cloud melees. the Japan schtick is largely unnecessary at best & quasi-fetishistic at worst (see: wasabi poison), but the driving taiko drums on the score are perfect so i guess it is what it is ?? most importantly, the talking dogs are roundly fuckin’ delightful
