The School for Good and Evil 2022
"The books are better, blah, blah!"
I can admit the books are better. But really, they're trying to condense six books into three hours, and we should all cut them some slack.
Acting is amazing. Set design and costumes are even more amazing! Some moments are cringy and the writing suffers from sounding way too millennial for people who are supposed to be living in medieval times, but.. all in all it's a good watch. Think Harry Potter meets Wicked meets cheesy romcom.

Matilda 1996
Pure, classic, fun. What's not to love about a movie like Matilda?
And yes, most of my enjoyment of this movie derives purely from the power fantasy it gave me when I was a small, shy kid. And my burning desire to get adopted by Ms. Honey. Bite me.
Half star taken off because that chocolate cake scene made me unable to eat chocolate cake until I was, like, eight.

Venom: The Last Dance 2024
The plot is a little... loose, to say the least. Sometimes you just have to facepalm at the quality of a movie's writing. It's almost chalked up to it's nose in cheesy movie cliches.
It's also surprisingly domestic for a movie in this genre, no? The amount of being sweet to kids and passively longing for a family sort of caught me off guard. Can I say this movie made the little symbrock shipper in me die and come back…

Wendell & Wild 2022
Good movie with extremely good ideas. I just think that it's a few too many ideas fighting for power in such a small amount of time. It makes the movie feel cluttered, even to the point that I had to pause it because it was overwhelming.
However, that doesn't mean the movie is bad! Only that the movie takes a few watches to really soak in and appreciate everything it has to offer. It's heartwarming and grounded in it's aesthetic. Don't skip out on watching it.
