    Anora is a lot.

    It’s a movie that redeems itself with a brilliant ending. I think I understand what Sean Baker is trying to achieve, luring us into a fairy tale-like beginning, only to unravel the narrative into something infuriating and painful to watch. By the end, we’re left with shards and broken bones, while the oligarchs fly off scot free.

    Beautiful and restrained, but incredibly life affirming and positive. I loved seeing the mystery of Hirayama unfold. And although very little gets uncovered everything is said. A guaranteed rewatch for me.

    I had serious doubts about this. I didn’t watch Alive and generally speaking I tend to avoid movies that are about suffering. But boy was I wrong. This movie is not at all about suffering.
