The Gendarme and the Creatures from Outer Space

    ★★★★½

Growing up means realizing the gendarmes are really the antagonists in this picture that first try to capture, then to maim those poor peaceful aliens just for doing their job (studying a faraway planet, without any bad intention) and occasionally having some fun on the beach.

Also hooray for the gay extraterrestrial robots sharing a nice cold bottle of oil, sipping it from wine glasses. This is a mood. You go, guys!

Absolute childhood favorite of mine, and big props that they pulled off the completely bonkers idea to inject science fiction in its cheesiest, most pulp magazine form into the gendarme film series.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

    ★★★★½

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is a prequel to the legendary Charlton Heston classic "Planet of the Apes" from the '60s, but you needn't know that movie to get a breathtaking experience out of it. The "Deep Blue Sea" movies - all 3 of them - are modern day exploitation flicks that give people who want to see a group of people being dramatically reduced one by…

    Fellowship of the Frog

    ★★★

"Der Frosch mit der Maske" ("The Frog With The Mask", also known by its source novel's title "The Fellowship of the Frog") in and of itself might seem like a harmless enough crime film of the 50s, it can't be considered any less of a milestone for European cinema. This is due to the fact that it was the first in a long series of German produced and/or co-produced movie adaptations of the crime novels by British writer Edgar Wallace…
