Oldboy 2003
Undoubtedly not a movie for everyone. Oldboy is a brilliantly executed revenge movie, one that, to be completely honest, is sickening and traumatizing. It is really challenging to connect with or empathize with any of the characters who seem to all make incomprehensible decisions. The plotline, which essentially depicts a rape, is served by overly sexualized female characters. The lines between consent and rape are purposefully blurred in Oldboy, and it is difficult to avoid the conclusion that a woman's "no" is actually a "yes" or a "no but later". Each relationship seems to be imposed on women who are either too young or too vulnerable.
