Masterful, I was hooked from the beginning and it only ramped up in drama and suspense with every scene. Curtiz had such a sharp eye for staging the characters and expressing their emotional significance through their presence. When a close up happens it feels significant, when characters leave a room you feel their absence, when you’re thrust into the chaos of a dinner you feel that chaos. All in service of a story that left me heartless. Charters that love…

Continues my weird relationship with Hitchcock, where I really appreciate his filmmaking and am consistently learning new things with every film of his. His use POV here is incredibly effective, reminded of something he does in North by Northwest. It got me into the shoes of the character helped me understand his deep anxiety, however I always struggle to fully engross myself into the story, and I haven’t really figured out why. But it happens with almost all of his films.

Without a doubt one of the movies I’ve seen this year!

There are many notable parts, it’s always fun to see Joaquin Phoenix and Vanesa Kirby, the film is often stunning and Scott really does bring it as a director, you only ever get movies of such precision and quality from established legends like Scorsese and Nolan, and this is no different in that regard. The script and whole story structure was really ineffective at points, I don’t have strong thoughts as I never really felt much of anything.
