This movie was obviously never going to be as good as the original, everyone knew that, although I had higher expectations. I thought as good as Paul Mescal is, he misses that inspiring goosebump summoning figure that Crowe left in 2000. The story was a spectacle, of course, although, unlike the spectacle left with the first Gladiator, this story was pushed too far.
