Nolan’s Oppenheimer, about the man behind the Manhattan Project is a great example of Nolan’s distinctive style of direction, with impressive set pieces and a fantastic cast and score that are unfortunately brought down by unnecessarily complicated plotting, consisting of three interwoven periods of time. Nolan’s films always feel as though they are trying to impress upon the audience the intelligence of their creator, to a frustrating degree in the case Tenet, his previous film.
