Ensemble cast, castle vibes, Danzig, and a touch of humor…you’ve peaked my interest. Overall, the film landed for me. Regardless of if I knew the twist or not, I enjoyed the ride. I was more than willing to sit back and let whatever happen happen, and what more can you ask from a movie than letting it take you where it wants you to go. I could critique some plot threads, but why purposely pull the stuffing out of a solid original movie and allow it to deflate from something fun to something less so.
First off, Nicolas Cage is a national treasure (wink, wink, and whatnot), so I ask for forgiveness when my feeble mind could simply not separate his whacky true self from his sinister portrayal..I don’t typically like to let out giggles when the serial killer is trying to show his or her insanity. First and foremost, this is a heartbreaking watching experience. It is unlike anything I’ve seen before, and I strongly suggest preparation beforehand. It is shattering. If you’re not shattered by the actual horrors that took place, you will at least be by the dialogue between these men, the raw back and forth of brothers. One running towards the truth and the other away. Proceed with caution. But if you can muster your heart to watch, I suggest it.
