    .... ungh.........

    UnnnnGGHhhh.....

    Maybe it's a generational thing.

This movie tried to do this cool "horror in broad daylight" thing.

But it pretty much just ends up being a worse version of Hereditary. Hereditary is terrifically good in being an exploration of curses, depression, mental illness, and unexplainable horror in one's life.

I get this as being an exploration of taboo, and grief, and heartbreak? But also, there's SO many other ways to tackle that then what this ended up being. It's way too on the nose. Seems like a first draft.

    It Chapter Two

    ★★★

It: Chapter 1 was a horror movie that captured the uncanniness of the half-remembered, of the oppressive anxiety at the nascense of identity, and of the nihilism of parental shepherds disillusioned by cyclical suffering.

It: Chapter 2 is not a horror movie. It’s a sci-fi with scary elements. Despite a strong cast, the story peters out as a result of what is ultimately a series of vignettes with no real impact or anxiety. The movie has tons of action and tense moments, but the sublime feeling of dread is overshadowed by a formulaic retread of what the first movie already did.

"Oh but there's plot holes." "Oh but the villain has no good build up." "The hero is too strong with no good reason." "They jump from scene to scene with like zero explanation."

I just recently rewatched Ep.'s 1-8 and um... this is Star Wars. It's a pulp action fantasy serial. It delivers at that. "Too much fan service"? I repeat: This is Star Wars.…
