Nothing more and nothing less than the greatest film ever made.

    The Martian

    ★★★½

An utterly enjoyable ode to competency, made with complete competency by a great filmmaker, Ridley Scott. The Martian features a tremendous cast, top to bottom, hitting on all cyllinders, anchored to the estimable shoulders of Matt Damon in one of the strongest performances of his career. There is nothing particularly extraordinary about The Martian, but it is a film without weaknesses also, and a welcome tribute to science and the power of both human ingenuity and the human spirit.
