After a series of interesting spins on the Dracula (and Frankenstein) story, Scars is almost a back-to-basics reboot. The problem with this is the Hammer version of the basic story, much like the Universal version, is very thin - so Scars ultimately disappoints.

The Unknown Girl 2016
Another round of clinical iciness from the Dardenne brothers, The Unknown Girl is hypnotically immersive. Perhaps lacks the emotional and social punch of films such as Rosetta or Two Days, One Night, it somewhat bungles the landing, but the journey is undeniably powerful.

So Long at the Fair 1950
A satisfying, buttoned-down version of an urban legend that has given rise to a wide range of films. This version is a gothic melodrama with an effective if hyperbolic conclusion.
