The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001
Unforgettable theater experience tonight.
I went into this viewing with a much more critical eye. Not where I was looking for pieces I don’t enjoy but rather, trying to make sense of why I do love these movies so much. I had so many fresh thoughts this time compared to other uncritical comfort watches in the past.
For one, this is the peak of visual effects. The computer effects are high fidelity enough to convince me of exactly what they…

The Lion King 1994
What if I got drunk and reviewed the lion king without watching it? Wtf yall gonna do? This movie is the best movie of all time.
I don’t even need to watch it to review. I got every framed burned into the back of my eyes. Best movie of all time.
One more thing about not watching this, I saw this 1000000000 times in my youth, I feel like that’s gotta count for something.

Minority Report 2002
Pretty good. The super over lit/overexposed look worked to varying degrees for me.
Love how dark Tom goes in this. Multiple times I was surprised by where the story was going. E.g., Tom Cruise’s surgery choice.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence 2001
Crazy that this movie was ever made and exists in the capacity it does. The special effects slightly pull me out but when the story is this engaging, it’s hard for me to complain.
Also sometimes scenes are edited very strangely. This movie is just so jarring. Spielberg’s Megalopolis.

There Will Be Blood 2007
There will be tears.
I’m writing this from the booth of Doc Films on my last shift as projectionist here. There Will Be Blood is finishing up on the screen behind me while I am cleaning up Evelyn. This whole show, I have been on the verge of tears and the second the final R rating frame shows up, I know the dam is going to break.
It feels so fast and so short. From the moment I heard about…

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial 1982
If you don’t fuck with E.T., I don’t fuck with you. 🫵
I have been going through Spielberg’s filmography recently because it’s only recently I really decided to open my mind to his kind of movies.
In a similar turn of events, one day I randomly started loving Paul McCartney and the Beatles. I had been a long time hater. In retrospect, for absolutely no good reason. This is is very similar to the unfounded bias I had maintained about…
