    Approaching what would be my 2,000th film, so decided to make it a big one.

    Even in a presentation as pristine as this one (the 4K version of the 1998 reconstruction on the Masters of Cinema release from Eureka), you can still feel the grime and murk at the heart of this US/Mexico border set noir. A rough edged, part-remembered nightmare of corruption and deception.
