mickey 17 has a lot of interesting ideas, but it feels it has to run with all of them instead of picking a couple and choosing its priorities. from surviving runaways for a new life to a pure sci-fi thought experiment to exploitative love triangle to settling for a slightly generic and underwhelming hero’s journey: it just kept switching and for that it doesn’t get to flesh out characters i was mostly interested in. it ends up becoming a blur of non-boring events while really interesting, leaves me feeling very emotionless.
