Big asterisk beside my score for this one. The amazon prime version can ONLY be watched as the English dub which made it skirt the border of unwatchable regularly throughout. This really broke apart any chance of immersion in the film for me.
Hard to avoid comparisons with the superior Godzilla Minus One despite it being released 7 years earlier.
I gave this only 3.5* simply because I didn’t like the style of the documentary. The actual message it was trying to convey was incredibly sobering and thought provoking. I think/hope this will influence my consumer habits going forward
They said a perfect movie does not exist. They were wrong.
This film has everything: a threadbare plot, stereotypical action movie characters, over the top fight scenes, outrageous explosions and an out of shape antagonist with questionable clothing choices. The epic one liners are an absolute treat and just keep coming throughout. Much like our protagonist during his one-man island invasion, this movie does not stop to reload.
On a side note, Oscar award winning composer James Horner was sniffing some serious glue when he scored this classic
