Even with gripping visual effects that show the horrors of tornadoes this film falls short of a remake. Much like a twister this script rips through without regard for anything in its path. In the end the film leaves the viewer unaffected, emotionally neutral, and ultimately disappointed. Most watching will make a plan to rent the original so they can fully understand everything that went wrong.
This film might be the biggest surprise of the year. The script was so well written that the presentation felt like multiple stories contained in one fimilar narrative. You are gripped by a love story, enveloped by the Japanese post war solidarity, and entertained by the uniquely written battle sequences. On the drive home I was still thinking about the characters and wondering what they are doing now, As if they were real, Only to be snapped back into reality, then I understood that I had viewed something of a masterpiece.
Even with the lavish costumes and transformative acting this film is unable to make an impact. This lack of emotional depth leaves the viewer questioning everything that is even stable about the presentation. When it was over I felt like someone who had looked at delicious food for 2h 38m but never really ate anything.
