Dune: Part Two 2024
This movie is beautiful and entertaining, there is no denying that. However, the film presents the colonization of Arrakis as a backdrop for flashy fighting scenes. Any scene that might explore the effects of the colonization on the Fremen are glossed over and quickly forgotten. The film is a spectacle, so much so that any kind of political edge the narrative might have is obfuscated. Colonization is abstracted and present only in passing. For a story about a man who joins a decolonial fight against an empire, that’s quite the feat.
