Been trying to think of deeper reasons for why I love this movie other than just "it's entertaining as f" but I really can't... of course the wanton violence against women on display is unpalatable at times but the range of emotions that I as a viewer underwent were enabled by that almost cringeworthy violence at one extreme and the comical unseriousness that characterizes most of the dialogue at the other

Point being not every movie has to have some grand moral lesson or something and what A Clockwork Orange lacks in life lessons it makes up for in sublime mise-en-scène

Just want to register a note of appreciation for the way this was shot. Despite the fact that the entire movie unfolded in a single jury room, Lumet was able to create a sense of perpetual motion that prevented any potential feelings of claustrophobia from taking root. The movement of characters seemed to be coordinated choreographically creating the impression that they were linked in some invisible way, which in turn seemed to contrast with the sharp nature of their disagreements over the guilt or innocence of the young man on trial. Maybe I'm the only one who felt this way.

This movie works on so many levels and that's what helps to explain its mass appeal and enduring popularity with a broad range of audiences despite the fact that superficially, it's a very niche neo-noir. If you;re looking for what most have come to expect from Scorsese and De Niro collaborations, that is characters who exhibit excessive amounts of machismo engaging in line-pushing and sometimes line-crossing behavior, there's some of that in there. If you're watching because you've heard about…

Expectations were high but this film managed to exceed them. If ever there was a life that lended itself to Christopher Nolan’s brand of storytelling it’s Oppenhimer’s.

While staying true to the history, Nolan manages to recreate an world in which the only certainty is uncertainty, in the subject’s own life and in society at large… From the high stakes race against the Nazis for atomic supremacy, to his romantic foibles, to his unjust treatment in the postwar period, Oppenheimer’s…
