Having read reviews on here for this film, I'm not quite sure what people were expecting but they seem to be far too often basing their rating on how it compares to that expectation.
Perhaps a lot of this film requires you to be in-the-know with the culture it comes from rather than a layman who looks down their nose at "urban culture". It doesn't feel like a film that needs to make that much sense as much as people…

Inland Empire 2006
What the fuck did I just watch? I've never seen anything like Inland Empire and now I'm more curious than ever to find films like it.
I will definitely be re-watching at some point to try and make more sense of it but the 3 hour runtime makes that a daunting thought.
This film has left me scratching my head in all the right ways.

Ritual 2000
Ritual may be my favourite ever film visually. Hideaki Anno's genius really shines in this film, the characters are incredibly well written, the colours are perfect, the use of sometimes quite lo-fi feeling anamorphic lenses but mixing in things like camcorder footage is perfect.
