I enjoy best movies that create space for reflection. So many are packed too full, and bombard the viewer with noise. Aftersun isn't long and it bakes in time when you can pause and process the quiet turmoil the protagonist is experiencing on holiday in Turkey. Exceptional.

Sure, I sat there grinning, murmuring the words to myself. But this is a one-note movie trying to do Dylan’s genius justice. It rings hollow, sort of like that Nike movie with Matt Damon from a couple of years ago. Go watch Inside Llewyn Davis instead.

The inspiration behind László plans for the Van Buren community center is confirmed in the film’s closing moment. You see the pain endured by the Jewish immigrant, the genius tramp, all along on Brody’s face. However, only then, in the epilogue, it fully comes together for the viewer. The brutalist building we witness constructed is a political statement. It is a scream, a cry composed of concrete.

Shockingly bland for 2 hours of runtime given the talent at the helm. The entire Cate Blanchett storyline was perplexing. Cooper delivers big time in that final scene.

George Miller, at 77 years old, had what it took to make it epic. Another satisfying installment in the dusty wasteland. The child actor was especially outstanding.
