Not sure what all the hype was about. It's just OK.

Gripping from start to finish. Breakneck speed, so full of story, so full of character, and symbolism, and the whole time it stay so grounded in a very human story, never veering off course into any sort of preaching or high art – it's simply a powerful and tense film about the complexities of a very specific situation that a whole group of people deals with in very relatable ways. Watch this right away.

Watching the original just after watching the sequel 2049, reminded me that oftentimes the original is simply better. There's a focus, a driving line of intention, a consistency in tone, a clarity of themes and concepts that come through with the language of cinema. The sequence, while epic in its scope and production, feels muddled and unclear. In the original, every gesture, every movement is so precise, so motivated. While the sequel seems frivolous in it's over the top moments, in it's pointless action scenes. Thank you, Ridley Scott.
