Wake in Fright 1971
This film made me scared to go to Australia ever again. Aussie cinema has a long history of being weird, and Wake In Fright is a perfect testament to this. I can’t say I liked John Grant as a character but, by sheer need to sympathize with someone fighting for their life to hold onto their sanity, I was along for the ride. It was a ride. I know kangaroos are considered a pest in parts of Australia, but that scene lives rent free in my head.

Conclave 2024
Writing, cinematography, performances all top notch. The world depicted was so intricate with its rules and traditions, felt like I’d snuck into the Vatican and had no right being there. Ralph Fiennes impresses me more each time I watch him, was onboard hanging on every word. I didn’t think they’d really go there for the ending - they WENT there, and I thought it really paid off.
