Amazing doc about colonialism, liberation, the Cold War and Dizzy Gillespie’s run for the White House. Obviously amazing soundtrack, but great archive as well. Deserves all the awards it gets.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai 1999
Watched for the first time since it was released. Remembered it as a slow, meandering film, probably because I thought then it would be along the lines of Juice, Do The Right Thing etc, etc. Watching it back it’s a definite ‘indie’ take on that genre, with the usual tropes of random juxtaposition, bizarre meetings and humorous framing. Made me want to go back and re-watch other indie movies from the time. But as for Ghost Dog, it’s a thoughtful meditation on violence and obligation, plus some great
Lines and good sight gags. Watch the cartoons! . Forest Whitaker is ace. Definitely recommend.Translated from by
