well… this made me appreciate gone girl a lot more. gone girl certainly isn’t perfect, and it’s not devoid of misogyny itself, but it managed to portray a female villain in an ugly, uncomfortable way that still felt… if not fully feminist, then at least thought-provoking and compelling. whereas strange darling tried to do the whole “victim is actually the perpetrator” twist, with the “pretending to be sexually assaulted” part and all, but it certainly fumbled the execution there. and…
