A lot of the acting performances in this are just bad, including Polanski’s. There’s also a lot of scenes that just end abruptly way before they should, with no smooth transition. This plot could have been executed so much better, really disappointing.

Solid movie with a nice message about how capitalism breeds exploitation in America, but it’s a bit too on the nose for my liking. Also, while I understand that it’s a satire, I don’t feel like it takes itself seriously enough for my liking, which is why it isn’t a four or above.

There Will Be Blood is a thrilling ride from start to finish, as it examines the relationship between capitalistic pursuits and religion in an increasingly industrial society. It was an amazing introduction to Paul Thomas Anderson’s filmography, and Daniel Day Lewis’ performance is even better than advertised.
