    You start out the movie hanging with the boys, seeing what their daily lives are probably like. You come to see them as irresponsible, rebellious teenagers who ditch school to go to an arcade, who commit petty theft by stealing vinyl LPs, etc. Their truancy and crimes amount to nothing more than the tomfoolery of inner city kids. I felt like they were innocent rascals who clown on each other and try to one up each other.

    This is either my favorite movie of all time or tied for first. 

    I think this movie is perfect. The plot is excellent and surprising for a first time viewers. Its character development is so strong that you root for many of the characters.  There’s no Dey’s ex machina, no over intellectualizing. It’s deeply satisfying.

    This may be tied for first for my favorite movie of all time. 


    I love it because it weaves creative filmmaking technique with the plot so well. 


    Its use of cinematography is poetic, sometimes literal and sometimes figurative. Joel is erasing memory. The titles of books in the book store go blank and peoples faces melt because the detail dissolves as his memory fades. Joel even drives as some of his memories flash before him as they disappear.
