Perfect Blue 1997
Unique animation and what seems to be a fairly original idea for 1997, created a very real world of paranoia and pain. There is no sense of restraint when depicting the acts of crime. I felt threatened, exposed, hurt.
One of the more compelling films I've seen. It is extremely hard to watch at points, making a 1:20 hour film feel like a 2 hour film. A two minute scene feel like five.

First Cow 2019
Every detail of this film is charming. Each character is uniquely their own, but they all maintain a playful aura. The village cute as all hell. The 4:3 aspect ratio helps create a world less grand than blockbuster movies.
The production design and color grading is amazing. I never saw an object or color that was out of place. Colonial movies tend to overcompensate with production design. Take a profession from those times and vamp up every aspect of it.…
