  I watched the original to prep for it and I wish I had not. It sticks so close to it that it drained any sense of surprise and or dread. Eggers knows how to create a vibe though, and it looks and sounds amazing.
  Still, I think that back in the days that movie was so impactful because it left the audience shaken. By being so faithful it kinda ignores decades of horror films, and the fact that to have a similar effect on audiences, a movie would need to be a lot more intense (at least for me).

  Probably would have been terrifying when it came out. The boat take over scene was still pretty damn good by today's standards. Really cool shadow work.
