From knowing nothing about Larson or rent (apart from that scene in the office), I thought this film was a really good piece of musical cinema. The motif of the ticking representing time running out is extremely powerful in multiple ways, literally Larson is running out of time before his showcase, the dread of growing old and the impending demise of his friends around him as the HIV epidemic threatens.
