Handsomer than your average American sci-fi blockbuster and a decent enough ride. Has a fairly effective set-up, but by the end I had little to no interest in what the film had to say or offer thematically. It's largely anti-Trump satire that feels redundant at this point, regardless of the recent turn of events in the real world. Bong's clunkiest work to date, though I have to respect him releasing his follow-up to Parasite straight after the Oscars.

    I'm So Excited!

I wanted to enjoy Almodóvar in fun mode. Unfortunately, this is a bit of a misfire. It's as brightly coloured as one of his films can be, but the humour and romance are inert, which is unlike him. Still, not bad for a worst film if you ask me.

A bonkers and bewildering trip that was honestly quite beautiful and touching at times. What was Francis on, but at the same time what was he cooking? FFC culminates visionary ideas from across his career, personifying the likes of Shakespeare, Lang, David Graeber, and many others. Sure it has liberal grandpa politics, but an old master making a maximalist film like this is still a sight to behold and the kind of thing we may never get to experience again.…

    Miami Vice

    ★★★★★

This film is two decades old and somehow it still feels light years ahead of anything being released today.

It is truly admirable how Mann took an '80s vechile to make something hyper-realist rather than nostalgic. Miami Vice embodies a world fragmented by digitisation. It's easy to see how this style of formalism threw audiences off back in '06, but once you get into the groove there's nothing more intoxicating than the film's lens of hazy tones and extraordinary detail.

I always considered Heat to be Mann's magnum opus, but Miami Vice might just be the most dazzling piece of work he's ever created.
