The Substance 2024
It would definitely go on a list of films I won’t recommend to my parents.
Honestly of all the possible reactions it could have caused, I’m most surprised by the fact that it provoked no real clear feelings for me.
I mean I enjoyed it… I think?
I thought it was undoubtedly well made and I’m excited to see what else this filmmaker creates, but I probably won’t watch this again any time soon.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning 2023
It’s fun but it is sadly a little too clear this was a Covid production.
It has lots of issues that I think I would forgive if I it had the sense of scale that the previous mission impossible had, but I think due to the filming constraints the sets really feel like sets.
That being said the train sequence at the end (though ripped straight from the Uncharted games) is dope!

Suuuuch a shame man.
The characters are genuinely interesting but man oh man the direction is just not up to scratch.
The main thing is that the main character is so unlikable and there’s literally nothing he does throughout the whole show that’s nice to one person. He’s constantly selfish, yet his friends are so die hard for him. It honestly feels like they knew they had a very transgressive character and thought “well how do we make him likeable?”…
