The Music Room 1958
Music as a blessing and a curse—fleeting and therefore ripe for a kind of nostalgia which few other mediums are capable of. The look on the servant’s face as he lights the chandeliers is one of the most pure expressions of joy I’ve ever seen. Such a weight on my heart right now.

The Prodigal Son 1981
performance in all aspects— on the stage, in social dynamics, in gender presentation, and even metatextually. In one of the most hype formal decisions I’ve ever seen, actors are credited throughout as their characters are introduced, even in the second half. It’s like an highlight reel for all the greatest fighters in the industry. All the world’s a stage and it’s time to KICK SOME ASS on it!

The Brutalist 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Like brutalism itself: straightforward and empty, but always elusive in its dedication to absence. So many unanswered questions and occasionally intensely oblique (What was that scene of Guy Pearce’s character disappearing into the night? Into the church? Either way, very intriguing). Other instances of greatness. That scene in Italy, that timelapse, that shade of GREEN in some shots, that shot of the Statue of Liberty at the beginning?? Wow. No wonder I had multiple dreams about seeing this before I actually saw it. There was no way I could be ready!

Minbo, or the Gentle Art of Japanese Extortion 1992
This is so cool! There’s some really funny gags, legitimately great character development, and cock and ball torture! Looks like the big 3 are all here!
