    The Brutalist

    ★★★½

Feeling very conflicted about The Brutalist (few spoilers but nothing too detailed).

The performances are good. Adrien Brody has pretty much mastered this type of character. Guy Pearce is good and he's effective in conveying the message of this movie. Felicity Jones is decen but I didn't love what she was given. Raffey Cassidy kind of got a nothing character (acting-wise). Joe Alwyn is great, especially in the last dinner scene where he sort of regresses into a little boy,…

I probably would have enjoyed this movie a lot more if my teacher didn’t pause it every 2min to explain each frame (it's not that deep)

Mikey’s a relentless shitbag who undergoes absolutely 0 change and is kind of insufferable to follow for 2h+. At least Sean Baker manages to make Texas look nice somehow though. Adolescence

In the current streaming landscape where twists and turns are expected, Adolescence is a breath of fresh air. The show isn’t trying to deceive or misdirect the viewers, if anything they’re as straightforward as they can be. With what they present, they manage to bring out relevant themes and use technology effectively.

It was good to separate each episode differently while still touching on similar subjects. Episode 1 (the arrest and interrogation) sets the tone well. In the last few…

I was rooting for the planet to kill everyone ngl.

Very beautiful even despite the weird Office-like close ups. Performances are quite strong and represent an interesting view of depression and existential dread in the face of extinction. The wealthy setting does not help us empathize with anyone that is seen on screen. The juice is in the second half mostly with a wandering first half.
